Recipe: Appetizing Tomato and garlic chutney

Tomato and garlic chutney. My mom makes a tomato garlic chutney that goes well with parathas and chapati. This recipe is also a similar one, sent by a reader Aby senthil, who had already sent me the beetroot pulao recipe I posted earlier. Traditionally tomato chutney was made by crushing roasted tomatoes, garlic, chilies, tamarind, cumin seeds and salt in a mortar pestle.

  5. It's 1/2 tsp of asafoetida (hing).
  6. It's 1 tsp of chana daal.
  7. It's 1 tsp of kokam pulp.
  8. Prepare 1/2 tsp of chilli flakes.
  9. Prepare 2 of dry red chillies.
  10. It's 2 of green chillies.
  11. You need 7-8 of garlic cloves.
  12. You need 1/2 tsp of methi seed (few roasted and grind it).

Tomato and garlic chutney step by step

  1. Wash the tomato and cut into picese.
  2. Then place the tomato piece into a sauce pan add kokam pulp and green chillies dry red chilli. and cook covered without any water until the skin stars to peel..
  3. Heat oil in a heavy bottom wok add mustard seed and curry leaves let tham crackle..
  4. Add chana daal add asafoetida chopped garlic cloves..
  5. Cook for 1 minutes..
  6. Then add blanched tomatoes.Add salt,chilli flakes and roasted methi seed powder in it..
  7. Mash continuously..
  8. Continue to mash until the chutney is done.Let it cool completely..
  9. Fill in a clean jar after the chutney is cold and store it in the refrigerator. And enjoy 3 months of this Tasty Tomato garlic Chutney..

This is a spicy, tangy & tasty chutney made from tomatoes. It pairs extremely well with idli, dosa, uttapam, pakora or vada varieties. This tomato chutney is a no onion and no garlic recipe. Though if you want you can add onions as well as garlic. This is a very simple tomato chutney with garlic flavour.
